Eyes To The Skies

If you are lucky enough to be in Canada’s far northeast on August 1, you will see a total solar eclipse. Unfortunately, the eclipse will be too far away for most Canadians to see. So Northern Canada, get your viewing glasses ready while everyone else will have to wait for a few years.

Feeling a little confused about what you might see? Don’t worry, Answers users have cleared up the difference between a lunar and solar eclipse. The most important thing to remember is no matter how neat it seems, to try to not look directly into the light. Bright lights are bad for our eyes, but solar eclipses can trick the eye, as anonymous explains.

I think many of us are fascinated by these events because of how little most of us really know about our solar system. We all know the sun is necessary for us to survive, but we don’t really know how it can burn so brightly without burning out.

The sun burning out is the stuff of science fiction, but some may wonder if it could truly happen. Marvel E says that this is happening now … but assures us we will be safe on Earth for a few billion years.

Still curious about what would happen, though? I was, too. Luckily some people our there, like Krynne, can give us an amazing description of a sunless planet. The image of humans floating around the solar system aimlessly is one that should be snagged up by Hollywood.

Even if you can’t see it outside, though a quick look on the web will yield numerous sites that have live streaming of the total solar eclipse filmed from prime viewing spots around the world.

Are you planning to watch the eclipse?

  2. I no longer have access to my account because I gave a bad answer, or a sarcastic one. Then when I try to get into the URL suggested to complain I can’t get that either.
So here it goes, I spend allot of time answering questions in mental health and straightening out people that read the bible literally and get confused. I have a background in journalism, business and research, I advocate for people with mental health issues and have an elected position on the governing body of doctors and physicians. I’m studying theology right now to get a degree and want to mix that with my advocacy work. I always source my answers or give people links for further help. I’m almost 50 not 15 like most of the people giving out answers.
So the question was from a guy who wanted to know how to commit suicide was the problem. One thing about this site it s quite addictive and I can keep firing away answers - especially in R&S - because I’m studying that subject. I know several ways to off oneself (I’ve had three friends commit suicide.) Do you think I’m going to pass on - get a bottle of tranquillizers (valium is best,) drink about 26 ounces of hard liquor with a plastic bag tied around your head. Of course not. So I tried laughter-become a suicide bomber and take out the republican party. No depressed person is going to go through the motions of becoming a suicide bomber-get through security etc. It’s absolutely ridiculous! It’s an act of fanaticism not depression. Perhaps my anger with the war and the countless dead, the lies of the Bush administration and the lunacy of the veep Sarah Palin being in a position of becoming president is scary to the rest of the world. We can’t do anything because we live elsewhere and can’t vote. Whatever happens in the US affects Canada. I had problems with my mortgage because of the sub-prime fiasco.
Pass this on to the BAD Answer think tank, because I can’t. Obviously I don’t have to be a part of this, it’s mainly for kids-It’s a break from the really difficult forums I’m in.
